Durability of machines:

These frames on the latest machines are now lighter than ever. The latest frames are much more durable than the early generations. They are light and have flex to them. Not light because its cheaper to use plastic instead of metal. The flexible frames also helps to dampen the vibration so you can see the display without it shaking violently side to side where you can't even push the button.

There are machines that are all out just heavy to keep it from falling apart. The Hypervibe was the first company that added the flexible frame. A heavy machine doesn't necessarily make it durable. This is the trap many people fell in when the trend about five years ago they did that. Some of these machines were over 200 pounds. There is a machine that weighs about 170 that only goes up to 11 hertz and is a pivotal machine. It was all fancy but it was made to look like it had to be durable. What a scam!

Some of these machines have inferior engineering and use such cheap components the only way they hand hold up past the warranty period is to add about 50 pounds to the plate. If you know what to look for you can easily spot them. Just look how cheap the tilt tables are and how low grade bearings they use.

A machine that is not durable might not be noticed at first. After usually about 6 months to a year is when the components shift inside the machine and slowly become off center. When this happens, the vibrations are sent to the floor and next thing you know pictures start becoming uneven and all the dishes are rattling.

I try to avoid AC motors unless they are the low EMF type. The AC motor types have the least maintenance, all you have to do is take it out of the mount and replace them. But, they are much more noisier than the DC motors. DC motors will usually have more wattage to make them stronger. The Zaaz 20k is only 400 watts but that is AC. That is strong for AC. A 400 watt DC motor would be much weaker. The Vmax Pulser 2 has a 1100 watt motor. AC motors are not good in humid places unless the machine really has a corrosion proof enclosure.

The DC motors vibration machines are better for constant adjusting speeds and continuous operation. For heavier people, the DC motors have torque and acceleration at the initial acceleration of the plate. The AC motors seem to wear out quickly with heavier people. The cheapest machines on the market are 99.99% of the time AC motors and people always call me and wonder why their motors burned out and they only had a 90 day warranty. Good luck as most of those companies don't even have a phone number (Ebay and Amazon sellers, sorry)

I urge people to get a powerful motor if they plan on running it for 20 minutes continuously like most people do. A cheap motors slowly get damaged from overheating. Only a few machines I've used can stay on all day without getting too hot. The Zaaz 20k machines run all day at their Zaaz studios. The Vibeplate and Hypervibe can also be run all day. The machines that get really hot can oxidize their copper windings and the power that was there when the machine was new might not be there a year later.

If you plan on keeping your machine for many years and you are heavier or plan on using it longer than 10 minutes continuously like I do, please let me know on my vibration quiz here.
